Please read the following before using the GIS services.

We are pleased to announce the release of GIS (Geographic Infomation System) data for Cameron & Hidalgo Counties. The GIS products are the result of the last six years of research & development. First & most importantly we want you to know they are not yet completed & will not be for possibly 2 to 3 more years. We are releasing them as an add on service for our existing customers with hope that what is finished will help your map & data research. You will find properties that are not mapped yet & for that we apologize. Some properties are extremely difficult to discern the boundaries & ownership. These properties will be mapped in time but please understand this is a very research intensive & very expensive process that we will complete in time & as our budget allows. Releasing a product before it is finished is not common practice for Carson Map but we feel enough properties have been mapped for the service to be beneficial to you. Constructive criticism & suggestions from you are encouraged.

Screen Resolution

Your resolution settings will greatly effect the quality of the map displayed. Viewing the maps in less than 1024x768 resolution is not recommended and we strongly suggest using much higher resolution whenever possible.

Access

There are two methods of accessing the GIS data. The first method is to click on the Map It! link at the bottom of the tax roll details page from your current Carson Map Cameron or Hidalgo subscription. Clicking the Map It! link will open a new browser tab or window and zoom to the property you accessed from the details screen.

The second method is to log into the GIS System for the county you currently subscribe to from the menu bar at the top of each page. The username & password are the same as your current username & password. Please remember to log out of the GIS when finished so others in your office will be able to log in. The login process is the same as your current subscription, two people may be logged in at the same time. The GIS login will not effect your current login. Two users may be on your current subscription site and two users may be on the GIS site simultaneously. If needed, additional login pairs may be purchased at half price of your current subscription.

Usage

Using the GIS is somewhat more complicated than your current Carson Map product but with a little practice it will become second nature. As in all our products, one of our primary goals is to try & make it as user friendly as possible. There are 12 buttons at the bottom of the screen that manipulate the map. At the bottom right of the screen is an indicator of what button is currently active. Searches by Address, Owner Name & Account Number are located in the top left as well as help (please read the help page). Please be patient when zooming and displaying different map views. It may take a few seconds for a map to load depending on how much detail has to be displayed. The systems have not been tested in a live multi user environment yet. Our server should respond well but there is always the possibility of a problem arising. If a problem arises or the server slows we will have to make adjustments that may disable the GIS services for maintenance but your current service will always remain available.
